We purchased the catboat from a gentleman in Maine in December of 2019. Bought her sight unseen. We waited until late February '20 for our transport company to be able to pick her up.
Great Lakes Transport hailing from Port Washington WI is the company that brought the vessel cross country. Jim Bert, owner, is at the top of his craft in transporting yachts.
This is the first time I laid eyes on her. I remember Jim calling me early the morning of his arrival. I picked up the phone, he said, "there's a catboat here that needs her captain"
Backing her into the facility. I'll never forget the feeling. My friend Janet drove an hour just to be part of the homecoming.
Mike Bert, Jim’s son, is another talented individual. He treated her like she was a million dollar yacht.
And here she has come to rest for a long restoration, complete refit, with many upgrades.
A beautiful old Dickinson solid fuel heater was the first to go. Why ? Because it was there.
We had an awesome first sailing season hailing from McKinley Marina.
Now, Yoshimitsu out of the water, Sept 2020, getting ready for her refit.
The beginnings of installing a bow thruster from Side Power
Cutting an elliptical hole was pure joy. Yikes.
Gutting the inside of the cabin has been a true pain in the buttocks.
This area here use to be the galley. Now it will be the NAV Station. Behind that bulkhead is where the fuel tank use to be. The bottom portion of that will be cut away and extended into the hanging locker. This will be for more foot room.
Spring of 2021. Hanger is empty as sailers are enjoying their season.
Yoshimitsu is undergoing months of blister repair along with major sections of reinforcing areas of the hull.
The vessel is stripped of all wood, inside is gutted, topsides are getting holes fiberglassed from inside and filler from outside.
I'm continuing the long list of measurements, planning for new systems, upgrades and modifications.
This is about the time that I've made my final decision to convert to electic.
Yoshimitsu is going through Electric Conversion !
I feel this is doing my part in preserving our planet.
The Yanmar 2GM is gone.
I knew in my heart this vessel would not be powered by fossil fuel, nor were we ever again going to have the smell of diesel.
I didn't know at the time that it would be an electic pod from a company out of Poland called eTech.
Shortly after I sold the engine to an individual in Washington State. He installed it in his sailboat and it's running beautifully.
